Burns’ bill passes the House | Local News

HARRISBURG — A bill sponsored by State Rep. Frank Burns, D-East Taylor Township, that would maintain in-state tuition for students whose military families are deployed or reassigned out of Pennsylvania, has passed unanimously by the state House of Representatives.

The proposed rule would go into effect as soon as a student “enrolls or registers at a Pennsylvania community college or submits an enrollment deposit at one of Pennsylvania’s four-year, state-related universities, owned by the State or private, which receive a credit from the State”. according to a press release.

The Pennsylvania Senate will now consider the legislation.

“Now that the House has unanimously agreed that this bill is a good idea once again, I encourage the Senate to act on this bill so that it can become law and help students in families of the military,” Burns said in a released statement.

“It’s a small, tangible benefit we can offer to honor those who serve, and I encourage the Senate to consider it and finally act on this bill.”
