Conduent Transportation and Hayden AI become Bolster partners

The partnership will provide an automated technology solution designed to keep children safe by enforcing school bus traffic laws

FLORHAM PARK, NJ & OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 31, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Conduent Transportation, a global provider of intelligent mobility technology solutions and a business unit of Conduent Incorporated (Nasdaq: CNDT), and Hayden AI, a global leader of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, today announced a partnership to develop and deploy an automated technology solution designed to improve the safety of children on school buses. The solution will be available later this year and will help communities increase enforcement of traffic laws designed to keep children safe.
Combining artificial intelligence and computer vision, the solution uses mobile cameras mounted on the outside of the bus that activate when the bus lights flash and the “handle” extends, signaling other vehicles not to pass when a student is dropped off or is picked up. When a driver violates the mandatory stop by driving around the bus, the automated solution is triggered to capture the violation. The camera automatically records license plate data and a video clip of the infraction, which is then quickly sent to law enforcement via a secure cloud connection for evaluation. Once the violation is confirmed, the solution also helps authorities efficiently process subpoenas or warnings.
Passing a school bus with the boom extended is illegal in every US state. According to a recent survey conducted by the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services, there are tens of millions of violations across America each year when vehicles drive past school buses, creating an unsafe situation for children getting on or off buses. Currently, 12 states have implemented the school bus enforcement technology, and to date, at least 10 other states have introduced laws allowing its use.
This partnership between Conduent and Hayden AI builds on a 2021 agreement the companies announced to collaborate on traffic safety solutions, including automated technology that can improve lane effectiveness for public transit buses. This additional stop-arm technology, once deployed, will adapt high-precision computer vision technology used successfully in other enforcement solutions, leading to more criminal offenses and requiring no effort from school bus drivers to function. The solution is funded by fines and can be implemented with no upfront cost to school districts or schools. Additionally, the solution’s data analytics can provide school districts with real-time insights into the effectiveness of their transportation systems, helping them make the best possible decisions to ensure the safe pickup and drop-off of each student.
“Automated school bus stop monitoring technology is a valuable tool for school districts and law enforcement agencies looking to keep students safe, and we’re proud to partner with Hayden AI to expand Conduent’s portfolio of intelligent mobility solutions,” said Mark Brewer , President, Transportation Solutions at Conduent. “We bring more than 25 years of experience as an industry leader in traffic enforcement, and Conduent currently supports one in four U.S. state and local government automated enforcement programs, including those implemented to enforce speed and red light enforcement.”
“We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Conduent on this important security initiative,” said Chris Carson, CEO and co-founder of Hayden AI. “Together we will bring new technologies to market that will enable us to achieve things we never thought possible and solve problems that were previously too costly or difficult.”
