Daedalic Entertainment may be working on the second Lord of the Rings game after Gollum

After Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Daedalic Entertainment may be working on a second game set in the Lord of the Rings universe.

According to an entry in the database of projects receiving German government funding, Daedalic Entertainment may be working on a second game based on the Lord of the Rings universe. The entry states that the new project will immerse the player in a lush world of mythical creatures and magic.

Additionally, the database entry states that the unannounced Lord of the Rings game tells a story from a character’s perspective that has never been told before. Players will discover entirely new regions and influence world events based on their role and abilities. They will try to influence the course of events and change the fate of the world in their own way.

This project is aimed at avid fans of the fantasy, story, and 3D action-adventure genres. It is to receive a total funding of 2,036,663 euros.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an action-adventure video game currently in development by Daedalic Entertainment and co-published by Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon. Set in JRR Tolkien’s fictional world, Middle-earth, the game explores the story of Gollum eight years before he appeared in The Lord of the Rings. The release is scheduled for May 25, 2023 for multiple platforms including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch version will be released later that same year.

The game was originally announced by Daedalic Entertainment in March 2019 with a planned release of 2021 and was pushed back to 2022 following the announcement of the Nacon agreement. On May 24, 2022, the game’s official Twitter page announced September 1, 2022 as the new release date for Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. The Nintendo Switch version is scheduled for release on November 30, 2022. However, on July 25, 2022, the developers announced another delay of “a few months”. After Nacon missed the planned 2022 release, Nacon announced that the game would be coming to Steam, PlayStation and Xbox in May 2023, with the Switch version following later that same year.
