Here’s the latest sports news from the Big Ten Conference from The Associated Press | national sport

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — March has become a worrying pattern for Purdue. Another promising season. Another lazy NCAA tournament. For the third straight year, the Boilermakers were bounced off a double-digit seedling, losing 16th seedling Fairleigh Dickinson, who defeated the Big Ten’s top roster with surprising ease. Purdue wanted to make history. Not this guy. The Boilermakers are the second No. 1 to lose to a No. 16, coming to Virginia in 2018. The Boilermakers have not made the Final Four since 1980 and have never won a title. They had one of the best players in the nation at All-America center Zach Edey. But they go home early again.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Fairleigh Dickinson became the second No. 16 seed in history to win an NCAA tournament game, with a stunning Purdue 63-58 with top seed behind 19 points ahead of Sean Moore and a relentless, frantic Defense. The smallest team in the tournament, the Knights showed no fear from the start of 7-foot-4 All America center Zach Edey. The FDU players were quicker and more composed than Big Ten champion Boilermakers. Five years ago, UMBC showed the little boys the way by overpowering Virginia in their first 16-on-1 win after numerous close decisions over the years. Still, the Nos. 16 had a 1-150 record against the No. 1 and were 1-151 overall before the FDU’s shock.

ALBANY, NY (AP) — Trayce Jackson-Davis pulled it all off with 24 points, 11 rebounds, five blocked shots and five assists as Indiana defeated 13th seed Kent State 71-60 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament times since 2016. The fourth-ranked Hoosiers advanced to play for the Midwest region on fifth-ranked Miami Sunday for a trip to Kansas City. Jackson-Davis became the first player since blocks became an official NCAA statistic in 1985-86, according to OptaSTATS, to have at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and five assists in an NCAA tournament game. Sincere Carry scored 15 points and led the Golden Flashes in winning six straight games en route to the tournament.

TULSA, Oklahoma (AP) — Purdue’s Matt Ramos ended Iowa star Spencer Lee’s hunt for four national titles with a pin in the closing seconds of their semifinal game Friday night. That leaves Cornell’s Yianni Diakomihalis as the only wrestler still in contention for a fourth Division I title on Saturday. He defeated Penn State’s Shayne Van Ness 8-3 in his semifinal match at 149 pounds. If Diakomihalis defeats Ohio State’s Sammy Sasso in the finals, he will become the fifth Division I wrestler to win four championships. Penn State is nearing its 10th national title in 12 years.

UNDATED (AP) – The hunt for the perfect March Madness Bracket will have to wait another year. In a men’s tournament where a 2-seeded and a 4-seeded lost on day one, only a handful of brackets remained intact in the biggest competitions when 16-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson took the floor against Purdue. The Knights stunned the top seeded Boilermakers. That sent the remaining perfect brackets into trash cans everywhere. Victories from double-digit seeded Princeton, Penn State and Furman had done early damage in the search for the perfect bracket. FDU ended all hopes.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Brandon Miller is confident he will be ready to face Maryland in Alabama’s second round of NCAA tournament play. Miller said he feels good a day after keeping goalless and playing under 20 minutes. The Crimson Tide are the top overall seed and stormed to a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The eighth-seeded Terrapins beat West Virginia by two points. Other Southern Region games include a few Cinderella teams. Furman, No. 13, meets San Diego State and Princeton, No. 15, plays Missouri.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Joey Hauser scored 17 points and No. 7 Michigan State defensively edged No. 10 Southern California in the second half for a 72-62 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament East Region . Michigan State upped their defensive intensity after halftime to muzzle the Streaky Trojans, who were eliminated in the first round of the tournament for the second straight year. Tyson Walker and Jaden Akins each added 12 points for Michigan State, who struggled from the free-throw line while trying to end the game. Joshua Morgan scored 14 points and Kobe Johnson 13 to lead USC.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark had 26 points and 12 assists and Monika Czinano added 22 points as Iowa beat Southeast Louisiana 95-43 in the first round of a women’s NCAA tournament on Friday. Hannah Stuelke added 13 points for the Hawkeyes, the second seed in Seattle Regional 4. Iowa will play No. 10 Georgia in the second round on Sunday. Clark, an Associated Press first-team All-American who finished third in the nation with 27 points per game, added seven assists. Cierria Cunningham led Southeast Louisiana by 15 points.
