AUBURNDALE, FL. –The TCNJ baseball team wrapped up their spring break trip with a 4-3 12-inning win over FDU-Florham on Saturday. Coming in with the big hit for the Lions was second Zach Hochheiser.
Jackson Malouf started the game for the Lions on the mound and put on a great performance. He went seven innings, striking out eight with six hits, two walks and one earned run. The Devils didn’t get through that one run against Malouf until the seventh.
A defensive pick by Justin Marcario in the fourth inning scored Ryan Goodall to put the Lions on the scoreboard first. In the sixth, TCNJ wanted more as Ryan Goodall sent a missile of a double to center field, scoring Mike LaGravenis and extending the lead to 2-0.
In the seventh, each team traded runs as FDU scored on a single right field to close in on one. In the half of the field, a sacrifice fly from Andrew Fernandez scored Jack Felipe and reduced the margin to two.
In the top of the eighth, the Devils managed to tie the game at three with a pair of hits and running on wild pitches.
Both teams went scoreless in the ninth to give us free baseball.
Junior Alec Schwartz stepped onto the mound in the tenth and ultimately took the win. Schwartz threw the 10th, 11th and 12th with authority, striking out four and allowing four hits. Schwartz did a fantastic job holding the Devils back and giving the Lions multiple chances to win in the half.
With Marcario in second and Goodall in third in the 12th half, Hochheiser scored a huge hit with an RBI single hit down the left side to score Goodall and win the game for TCNJ.
Goodall led the Lions at the plate Saturday, going 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Chris Reeder and Jack Haynes also had multi-hit matches on Saturday morning.
