Hockey: Ohio advances in ACHA National Tournament after win over Illinois State

Ohio advances to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament after defeating No. 15 Illinois State in an uneventful offensive game. The Bobcats took the win 1-0 after Luc Reeve scored the only goal of the night in the opening minutes of the third period.

Here are all the numbers you need to know from the first round of the tournament.

The Bobcats didn’t score their first goal of the night until the third period. There wasn’t a single run on the board until then, which was an unusual feat for the Bobcats, who almost always manage to find the goal in the first period.

Ohio racked up just four penalty minutes throughout the game, despite a few other penalty-filled matchups recently. The Bobcats toned down their physicality for a while as being repeatedly sent to the box was costly on both sides of the puck. This was the case against Illinois State, and it paid off as Ohio picked up a victory

Illinois State managed just 23 shots on goal overall, a testament to Ohio’s ability to keep the puck away from its own goal. Justin Damon had an impressive performance, producing another shutout for the Bobcats.

Luc Reeve is currently the ACHA’s second-leading scorer, and his ability to find the net was on display Friday when he scored the game-winning goal for the Bobcats. He’s proven to be an offensive weapon for the Bobcats time and time again, and that doesn’t seem to change in tournament play.
