Jennifer Connelly and Joel Edgerton in the Apple series Dark Matter

Top Gun: Maverick star Jennifer Connelly has come on board to star alongside Joel Edgerton in Apple’s upcoming sci-fi series Dark Matter.

The series is based on the novel Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. According to entertainment website Deadline, Crouch wrote the pilot for the nine-episode series and also serves as showrunner.

Edgerton plays Jason Dessen, a physicist, professor and family man who is whisked away into an alternate version of his life while walking home on the streets of Chicago one night.

“The miracle quickly turns into a nightmare as he attempts to return to his reality amidst the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this maze of mind-altering realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to return to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, invincible enemy imaginable: himself.”

Connelly plays the role of Daniela, Dessen’s wife.

Crouch also executive produces Dark Matter for Matt Tolmach Productions alongside Edgerton, Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl.
