Family and friends are remembering actor Lance Reddick after his sudden death on Friday at the age of 60.
“Lance was taken from us far too soon,” wrote Stephanie Reddick, the late actor’s widow, in an Instagram post on Saturday. “Thank you for all of your overwhelming love, support and beautiful stories shared on these platforms over the last day. I see your messages and I can’t express how grateful I am to have you.”
Lance Reddick, a veteran character actor best known for his portrayal of Cedric Daniels on The Wire and for his work in the John Wick franchise, died of natural causes, according to his rep Mia Hansen.
His “Wire” co-star Wendall Pierce remembered Reddick as a “man of great strength and grace” in a tribute on Friday.
“As talented a musician as an actor,” Pierce wrote. “The epitome of class. A sudden, unexpected, sharp, painful sadness for our family of artists. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Thank god my friend. You’ve made a name for yourself here.”
“Shocked!! Speechless!! This talented, kind, intelligent king is gone!! I was blessed to have worked with you and blessed to have known you,” actress Viola Davis wrote in a tribute on Instagram. “Praying “Consolation to your family and loved ones! Have a good rest Lance Reddick…see you on the other side.”
Reddick, who appears in John Wick: Chapter 4, was also remembered by his peers in the franchise.
“A kind soul, a wonderful person and a true friend,” reads a comment from the film.
Reddick was also the voice of Commander Zavala in the Destiny game series and popular within the game’s player community.
His wife confirmed her affection in her tribute.
“And to the thousands of Destiny players who played in Lance’s honor, thank you. Lance loved you as much as he loved the game,” Stephanie Reddick wrote.
She asked for donations on his behalf to momcares.org, a nonprofit organization serving mothers and families in Baltimore, his hometown.
