Lois Groenendaal Ward Obituary – Erie Times-News

Lois Groenendaal Ward, 93, of Millcreek died on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Edinboro Mansion. His family was by his side.

She was born on July 29, 1929 in Oswego, NY, to Sidney and Wilhelmina (Benoit) Groenendaal and lived most of her life in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Lois attended high school Academy. Lois was a homemaker and held various retail jobs after the untimely death of her beloved husband, James R. Ward. She raised her young sons alone after her husband’s untimely death on June 16, 1971. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and sewing.

She was predeceased by her husband, her brothers, Austin, David and Edwin Groenendaal, her sister, Pauline Johnson and her two infant sisters, Elizabeth and Cornelia.

Lois is survived by three sons, Dennis (Christine), Robert (Judy), and James R. Ward II (Jan). She is survived by four grandsons, Daniel Ward, Timothy Ward, James Joseph Ward and Nicholas Ward. She is also survived by her former stepdaughter, Roseanna Ward, and a close friend, Nancy Potter, who faithfully visited Lois weekly while she resided at Edinboro Mansion. She is survived by one sister, Ruth Falk (Richard), and one brother, Robert Groenendaal. She also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
