Sophomore Nick McCreery (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) scored twice to lead the Hope College men’s lacrosse team in a 12-8 loss to Rhodes University on Saturday.
Hope is now 3-3 after the non-league defeat.
Rhodes had two different three-goal streaks in the second period. Those unanswered runs put Rhodes ahead of Hope starting 7:21 into the second period through the rest of the game.
Hope beat Rhodes in the loss, 20-16. The orange and blue also outshot Rhodes in all but the fourth period.
McCreery finished the game with two goals, including the goal that put Hope ahead to end the first period.
Six other Flying Dutchmen scored a single goal against Rhodes: junior Michael Mann (Plymouth, Mich./University of Detroit-Jesuit), second Sam Bowen (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern), rookie Will Jewell (Northville, Michigan/Detroit Catholic Central), second David Brace (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth), junior Blaine Hyde (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) and second Owen Mueller (Traverse City, Mich./Saint Francis).
Senior goaltender John Shea (Commerce Township, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) made four saves for Hope.
The Flying Dutchmen will play on the road again on Wednesday, March 22 against Illinois Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m.
