Mexico Unveils Historic Qatar World Cup Away Kit This Fall – NBC Chicago
Mexico always invests a lot of time in choosing their World Cup kits. After all, it’s the biggest tournament in football, so dressing to impress is only appropriate.
In July, the country introduced its men’s home kit. The Mexican Football Federation and Adidas have announced the return of Mexico’s green kits. Now the team has officially announced its away kit.
Ahead of November, let’s take a look at what we can expect from Mexico for its away kit this year, as well as some history of the nation’s kits:
What will the Mexico men’s team wear as away kit for FIFA World Cup 2022?
Mexico’s soccer team will wear red and white kits at the 2022 World Cup. The jerseys will feature strong imagery and will represent the country’s pre-Hispanic memory as well as its modern culture.
The jerseys will feature images including:
- A Malinalli, a grass that soars into the cosmos but is connected to the world through roots
- A conch shell depicting Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli, the Mesoamerican god of dawn, representing the first breath of life and the last exhalation
- A spiral aimed at reflecting words based on truth, song and poetry
- The talking stick or staff carried by Quetzalcóatl, the god of winds, rain and the creator of mankind and one of Mexico’s most important deities
- New fires symbolizing cosmic cycles
- Mexico’s red and white coat of arms
When will these jerseys debut?
The kits will be debuted on Wednesday, August 31 during the Mexico-Paraguay game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The shirts will also be worn in the Rose Bowl when Mexico meets Peru on September 24, as well as when the club meets Colombia on September 27 in Santa Clara, California.
The kit will be worn for the first time at the 2022 World Cup on November 22, when Mexico start their group game against Poland.
Who Makes Mexico’s 2022 World Cup Away Kits?
Adidas is the official manufacturer of Mexico’s home and away kits.
“A tribute to Mexican culture – unmistakable worldwide,” says the Adidas website. “About Mexico. Wear your heart on your chest in the Mexico jersey and train in football gear that shows your team pride.”
These jerseys will be available from Monday 29th August.
What was Mexico wearing for the 2021 season?
Last year, Mexico swaggered in black and pink “Rosa Mexicano” style.
However, in 2022, Mexico will present green home kits, designed to emulate the 1958 World Cup. The color green is deeply rooted in Mexican football culture. And as already mentioned, the away shirts will be red and white, which also represents the country’s ancient and modern culture.
When will Mexico play the 2022 World Cup?
Mexico will play Poland in their opening group game on November 22 at 11:00 am ET. In Qatar.
Their second game is on November 26th at 2pm ET against Argentina and their third against Saudi Arabia on November 30th at 2pm ET.
