NC A&T’s highest-rated rookie Duncan Powell enters transfer portal

Whoever takes over North Carolina’s A&T men’s basketball program won’t have Duncan Powell to build.
The red-shirted freshman announced his intention to play elsewhere by announcing that he would enter the transfer portal via social media on Saturday.
His message read:
“First of all, I want to thank God for blessing me to play the sport I love.
I want to thank all my coaches and teammates for investing in me and making me a better player. I will forever cherish the relationships I have built here.
To my “Aggie Land” family, thank you for all the support and I’m honored to have worn this jersey.
That being said, I would like to announce that I will enter the transfer portal.
The 6’8 forward averaged eight points per game in the 2022-23 season — his first basketball season since his junior year at DeSoto HS in 2019-20. Knee injuries kept him out of his senior high school season, and he only made a brief rookie appearance at NC A&T, recording a foul.
Powell battled his way through, scoring in double figures for the first time in his 12th game. He scored nine times in double figures, including a 20-point performance against the College of Charleston.
Duncan Powell committed to North Carolina A&T in the fall of 2020, entering as the highest-rated recruit in program history. He was rated four stars by ESPN and said he was excited to play in an HBCU.
“I’m just ready to get there and dominate. It’s as simple as possible.
Powell played this season under interim head coach Phillip Shumpert, but was recruited by former A&T coach Will Jones whose tenure ended abruptly last summer.
Powell’s entry came just days after Marcus Watson, A&T’s second-highest goalscorer this season, entered the transfer portal.
