New Jersey Senate Candidate Angela McKnight Issues Statement on Liberty State Park Revitalization Program

(MAY 25, 2023 – HUDSON COUNTY, NJ) – Following a community open house hosted by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Congresswoman Angela McKnight, Senate candidate for the State, issued the following statement:

“Liberty State Park is the jewel in New Jersey’s crown, and I’m proud to have it in my district. As the sponsor of legislation establishing the Liberty State Park Design Task Force which also provided seed funding to revitalize the park, I am grateful to Governor and Commissioner LaTourette for advancing a plan that cleans up Liberty State Park, expands public access to safe and open space, and creates new recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. Clean, open public spaces and parks are hard to find in a densely populated area like Jersey City and Hudson County, but they are essential to the health, well-being and quality of life of all members. from the community. Likewise, our schools lack the sports facilities needed to compete with the suburbs. I’m glad the Governor and Commissioner have included a community center and ball diamonds, but I encourage them to also consider high school sports facilities for track and field meets and football games to accommodate parents, friends and classmates who want to watch children play. After seeing the damage from Super Hurricane Sandy, I also urge the DEP to rework their plan to bring water to the heart of Liberty State Park and increase the threat of flooding to the park and surrounding neighborhoods. says Congresswoman Angela McKnight (D-Hudson County) who is running for the state Senate.
