Planning Commission to Hear Request for Virtual Reality Arcade in Downtown Carson City | News from Carson City, Nevada

System’s Edge LLC has applied for a special use permit (SUP) from the Carson City Planning Commission to establish a virtual reality arcade at 1087 S. Carson Street.

The site, located within the office park in front of Red’s Old 395 Grill, is designated as a downtown mixed use of which an “arcade” is a conditional use.

The Planning Commission will decide today, Wednesday, whether or not to make available the SUP that the staff is recommending. The meeting will be at 5 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.

The applicant proposes to create a virtual reality arcade with 8 stations and a gathering area for waiting customers. The stations are housed in cubicles, along with a dedicated second-floor area with sofas and coffee tables used for “socializing and learning.”

According to the project description, the shop is aimed at young people and young adults and will also sell packaged drinks and snacks.

The proposed arcade will be located within an existing suite in the office park.

Prior to the meeting, public notices were sent to 75 property owners within 600 feet of the site in question on Aug. 17, and no written comments have been returned since, according to staff.
