Red birds return home to welcome bulldogs and panthers

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – For the first time in 17 days, Illinois State women’s tennis is back home as it continues the 2022-23 Missouri Valley Conference season against Drake and UNI.

The ‘Birds and Bulldogs face off on Saturday with the first serve at 2.30pm while it’s ISU and UNI who kick things off at 11.30am on Sunday morning. Both games will take place from the Evergreen Racquet Club.

The Redbirds (8-6) recently started MVC play with a road win over the Missouri State Lady Bears last Sunday. The Redbirds took the lead early on with a clean sweep of doubles matches. Then, in singles, ISU won the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at no. 2 by Alexandra Abyasova against Mary Houston.

Drake (8-6) visits Bloomington after earning his first MVC victory of the season against UIC last Saturday. The Bulldogs have won four of their six singles matches, while three results have come in straight sets. Meanwhile, in doubles, it was Drake who won two out of three matches to secure the victory and end their two-match skid. Overall playing on the road this season, Drake is 2-5.

UNI (4-9-1) travel to Peoria to face Bradley on Saturday before traveling to Bloomington for Sunday’s game. The Panthers fell short in their MVC opener as they lost a 6-1 result to the UIC Flames last Sunday. Playing on the road this season, UNI are 2-5-1 and have lost three of their last four games.
