SBA accepts nominations for Vermont’s annual Small Business Awards

Vermont Business Magazine The SBA Vermont District Office is accepting nominations for its 2023 Small Business Awards. Past winners in Vermont include Ben and Jerry’s, Mamava, and Blake Hill Preserves.

The annual awards recognize the achievements of SBA-supported small businesses and the contributions they have made to their communities and Vermont’s economy.

To be nominated and receive one of the following local awards, the small business nominee must fit the award category, demonstrate business success, and complete and submit the required nomination package information.

The categories are as follows:

Small Business Owner of the Year Criteria: Individual or partners who own a small business that has increased sales, profits and employees and has been in business for three years. The company must have received support from the Small Business Administration.

Exporting Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business that has increased sales, profits and/or employees through export and has been in business for three years.

Family Run Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small businesses must have been family owned for at least 15 years and ownership passed to another generation.

Veteran-Run Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business that is at least 51% owned by a US military veteran and has been in business for three years.

Female-Led Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business at least 51% owned by a woman that has been in business for three years.

Minority-Led Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business that is at least 51% ethnic minority owned and has been in business for three years.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year Criteria: Individual or partners who own a small business, are under 30 years old and have been in business for three years.

Small Business of the Year Criteria: An individual or partner who owns a micro-business with five employees or fewer, has received SBA assistance, and has been in business for three years.

To nominate a Vermont small business, email the name of the business along with the name of the owner and the specific award category for which the business is being nominated to [email protected] The SBA Vermont District Office will then follow up on the deal. Companies can nominate themselves

Loan Clinic September 7th

The Small Business Administration is hosting a free webinar on September 7 at noon on their guaranteed loan programs.

The SBA guarantees loans that make it easier for small businesses to obtain financing by reducing lender risk. The funds can be used for most business purposes, including long-term assets and working capital. Amounts range from $500 to $5.5 million.
