This happens just blocks from the Cincinnati Entertainment District. Local residents tell KTSM 9 News that bar-goers park next to their houses because the streets closer to the entertainment district have “no parking” signs.
Resident Roger Davie says this is the second shooting in recent months.
“They’re shooting in our neighborhood, and there’s no reason why it couldn’t go through a window, go through a wall and get someone killed, so it’s scary, it’s really scary,” Roger Davie said.
They added that they had other issues in the neighborhood as well.
“People urinating in our garden, we come out of here, we find bottles everywhere here, people come out screaming and screaming at 2:30 a.m.,” Davie said.
He reached out to his District 8 city representative, Chris Canales, about his concerns, urging the city to close bars in the area at midnight.
“All of these problems always occur at 2am late at night when the crowd is there,” Davie said.
KTSM 9 News has reached out to Rep Canales but has received no response.
The El Paso Police Department says it is aware of concerns in the area near the entertainment district.
“We will do our best to keep the partygoers in the actual area and hopefully as far away from the residential areas as possible,” said Sgt. Robert Gomez.
Add to that the fact that there are increased patrols in the area and there will be even more for St. Patrick’s Day.
“The West Side is deploying additional patrols in the area, we also have officers working overtime on the weekends,” Gomez said. St. Patrick’s Day, because it’s a holiday and a big celebration throughout El Paso, we have additional sessions that will be in addition to what we normally have in Cincinnati.”
