GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – For some people, mascots are the favorite part of a sporting event.
The influence of mascots on their team’s marketing strategy and social media posts has grown astronomically over the past three years. Atlanta Braves mascot Blooper and Carolina Panthers mascot Sir Purr have both been used in engaging ways for their fans via social media.
According to a Gambling.com report, both mascots are among the top 10 most followed on social media. Blooper has more followers on Twitter than anyone else in the top 10 (see table below).
While most sports teams have an active mascot, the methods of how each mascot interacts with its fan base and marketing strategies vary. Social media play a major role in this.
Gambling.com conducted research to find the 10 most followed sports mascots across all teams in the NBA, NFL and MLB, leveraging their influence online. They used four different social media platforms to collect this information, including Facebook follow, Instagram follow, Twitter follow, and TikTok follow.
