SIU in sixth after first round at Bama Beach Bash

The Southern Illinois Women’s Golf Team posted a first-round score of 308 (+20) on Sunday to end the day in control of sixth place at the Bama Beach Bash. Junior Janie Samattiyadeekul posted a 73(+1) with three birdies on the day to lead the Salukis through the first 18 holes of play at Gulf Shores Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Sophomore Kylee Vaughan is tied for eighth after carding 74 (+2) with two birdies on the day. Rookie Ella Overstreet shot 80 (+8) for a 42nd share. Senior Secilia Ho is tied for 54th with a score of 81 (+9) and senior Ayanna Habeel is tied for 70th with a score of 87 (+15).
Sophomore Morgan Gindler finished the day at 87 (+15) and junior Adriana Vinterova shot 104 (+32). The two are in competition as individuals.
Southern Illinois is scheduled to tee off for the second round of 18 holes Monday at 9:00 a.m. CT. The weather forecast is mostly sunny with a high of 58 F; however, the National Weather Service issued a frost warning from 10 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday for coastal Alabama counties, which could delay morning start times.
