Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra Art Auction in Support of Mt. Tallac High School | South Lake Tahoe

The buses roll. The South Lake Tahoe school is back in class and Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) is conducting a fall fundraiser, an online art auction called “An Artful Way to Support the Youth of Mt. Tallac High School.” All sales, 100 percent, go directly to Mt. Tallac High School. This online-only art auction is open to anyone who can bid on quality original art from September 1st to September 30th. The auction is now live at http://www.artsaleformttallac.org. This is a unique opportunity to support our local students and purchase original art at a very, very reasonable price.
Soroptimist can only do this thanks to the generosity of two local members of our community who have left a legacy that will live on beyond their lifetime.
Sandy Williams and Keith Williams, residents of South Lake Tahoe since 1994, loved life in Tahoe, were active outdoor enthusiasts and were involved in many aspects of the community. Sandy worked at Barton Health and after her retirement she joined Soroptimist International from Tahoe Sierra and focused on her passion of helping children. She was the chair of the Youth Enrichment and Scholarship Committee for Soroptimist for several years.
After her death in October 2019, her husband Keith, a longtime art student under the tutelage of Professor Phyllis Shafer, an accomplished artist and mentor at Lake Tahoe Community College, made the decision to keep Sandy’s legacy alive with support for the students of Mount Tallac .
Keith donated all of the artwork he created and some that he acquired to SITS with the stipulation that all funds raised go towards the needs of the students at Mt. Tallac High School, a place Sandy cares deeply about.
Keith honored his wife by donating a number of artworks he had created over the years. It includes wood and ceramic sculptures, watercolors and bronze pieces, as well as some pieces by his local artist friends. He spent many hours creating art as it was his passion and he produced many beautiful and thought provoking pieces.
Keith then passed before this auction came about, but he knew we would follow his wishes. TOGETHER, our community has this unique opportunity to acquire and collect an original work of art and support students at Mt. Tallac in their success and success.
