South Florida’s Erik Grevelius named AAC Player of the Week

TAMPA (March 28, 2023) — University of South Florida men’s tennis player Erik Grevelius was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 27, the conference announced Tuesday. . This is Grevelius’ first weekly AAC award with the Bulls and first of the season for the team.

A junior from Stockholm, Sweden, and a transfer from the University of Georgia, Grevelius was combined 4-0 in singles and doubles action last week as he led the Bulls to two wins over No. 58 Florida Atlantic. (4-3) and Wichita State (7-0). He scored a pair of No. 3 singles win streaks, earning a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Owls and a 6-1, 7-6(6) decision over the Shockers. Grevelius added 6-2 and 6-4 wins to the No. 2 double to help South Florida extend their winning streak to five games.

On the year, Grevelius is 8-8 in singles and 10-6 in doubles. Over the past weekend, the junior has won four straight doubles matches with Alvin Tudorica and is 7-2 in his last nine completed matches with Tudorica and Davide Tortora.

South Florida, ranked No. 54 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings (as of March 28), returns to the USF college tennis courts for the first of back-to-back contests when it takes on the SMU ranked No. 50 on April 2 then Tulane on April 3 with both games starting at 1:30 p.m.
