St. Patrick’s Day gives Savannah a boost in business

People from across the country are in Savannah this weekend to take part in the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. All these visitors boost business. “It’s exciting. It’s good to see the city come alive again in anticipation of St Patrick’s Day,” said Corey Pennington, owner of PennyKix shoe store on Broughton Street. PennyKix has been open for 2 years now. Pennington told WJCL 22 News that holidays like St. Patrick’s Day help more people discover his business. “I never thought I’d have a store on Broughton Street in downtown Savannah, and I just hope we keep growing,” he said. Pennington said, although the weather wasn’t great Saturday morning, he held up that doesn’t stop people from going downtown. “I would say it meets my expectations of a lot of tourists in the area, so that’s what I expected,” Pennington said. Pennington was one of the people celebrating Friday. He said it’s good to see that his co-owners of small businesses are also seeing an uptick in business. “That can help dramatically,” he said. “I can envision food and drink, hotels that I’m sure have sold out and are out of food.” Pennington now looks forward to future St. Patrick’s Days and the business they will bring.
