Two Jackets Punch NCAA Outdoor Championships Tickets – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s men’s track team had another exciting day as two jackets secured their spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Jamir Gibson kicked off the third day of competition in the men’s discus throw. He threw a qualifying mark of 55.14 meters (180-11) and finished 12th overall. Gibson is now the first men’s doubles qualifier since 2009 when Hall of Fame inductee Steve Marcelle also qualified for the men’s shot put and discus.
In the third round of the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Zach Jaeger’s hard-fought finish earned him a spot at the national championships. With the fastest time on the final lap, Jaeger was able to place fourth in the heat and ninth overall with a time of 8:47.47.
John Watkins also competed for Tech in the men’s triple jump. Watkins recorded a mark of 15.35 meters (50-4.50) to finish in 20th place overall.
Tech continues competition tomorrow with the women’s high jump at 2:30 p.m., the women’s 3000m steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. and the women’s 5000m at 8:10 p.m.
