History Links MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — The second-ranked USC beach volleyball team (11-1) defeated No. 15 Florida Atlantic (8-6) by a 3-2 count in its second game at the South Beach Surf & Turf Invitational on Friday, March 17.
The Trojans scored the first point of the duel with a victory at the No. 5 position where rookie Delaney Karl and graduate Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope beat Kate McLaughlin and Alivia Orvieto, 21-19, 23-21.
Narrowly, FAU leveled the duel with a win from their No. 3 pair of Jillienne Cangelosi and Emma Grace Robertson. They beat the USC tandem of junior Delaynie Maple and rookie Gabby Walker, 21-19, 25-23.
USC went ahead once again with a three-set victory by senior twins Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse, 15-21, 21-16, 15-9, over Ashleigh Adams and Julie Honzovicova. On the top court, graduate Madison Shields and rookie Madison White provided the deciding point with an 18-21, 21-17, 15-9 win over Ellie Austin and Christine Jarman.
In a hard fought three sets, FAU’s Logan Mignerey and Courtney Moon defeated the Trojans duo of graduate Jenna Johnson and rookie Mabyn Thomas. 13-21, 22-20. 19-17. Johnson played in his first duels as a Trojan.
The Trojans are back in action for two duels on Saturday March 18 in South Beach. USC takes on 14th-ranked Florida International at 11:30 a.m. ET (8:30 a.m. PT), then wraps up the Surf & Turf Invitational with a game against North Florida at 4:30 p.m. ET.
