Wild Arms’ Spiritual Successor, Armed Fantasia, Reveals Development Update; Fixed number of enemies, dungeon themes and background music ambition

The team behind the successfully launched turn-based JRPG Armed Fantasia has released a development update on several aspects of the game. Models for the world map are still being made and tests are being conducted for the boat and flying machine you can use for traversal.

In addition, the concepts for the gadgets are all finalized, although understandably changes still need to be made depending on how they work in practice. The team also confirmed that Stritsch, Soleil’s partner, will be a gadget.

As we progressed, the number of enemies, the anomalies, was fixed. In addition, all names have been provided and their signature information has been completed. The idle battle stances for Ingram, Alicia, and Euclid have also been completed.

As for the dungeons, players can expect “classic stone underground ruins,” a “punk western church setting,” and “overly ornate Gothic style” aesthetics, among other things.

Finally, while vague, some notable ambitions are pursued as far as the background music is concerned. Lead game designer and screenwriter Akifumi Kaneko said he’s considering a method of using the background music that he’s never used in previous games, and he “could be on his way to dying a hero’s death.” So far, this one is on track for completion unspecified soundtrack usage concept still pending.

For more details on Armed Fantasia’s development, check out the game’s latest Kickstarter backer update.

The April 2023 Kickstarter Backers Update revealed artwork of the following enemy, Fulad-zereh:

The protagonist Ingram is set in the land of Londenium and decides to leave his hometown after his grandfather dies. He then becomes a Pathfinder, a profession that uses ARM (Aether Reaction Maximizer) weapons to rid the world of anomalies.

In this western punk wilderness, Ingram will engage many allies and enemies in a battle that will bring to light the past and future of Londenium. Two of his party members are named Euclid Sturges and Alicia Fairhead.

Players can look forward to a “large-scale, party-based JRPG adventure” that features a huge world map with puzzles, sea and air navigation with vehicles, and real-momentum racing. When exploring dungeons, party members use their gadgets, which have unique ways of defeating obstacles.

Combat will be turn-based and will use the Cross Order Tactics system. “Successive character actions play a key role in chain order, and disruptive Force Breaches disrupt the enemy’s turn order,” hence a high degree of strategy is heavily emphasized.
