Women’s bowling wraps up day one of North East region roundup


The University of New Jersey City women’s bowling team participated in the first day of the Northeast Region Gathering on Saturday, March 15, hosted by Wilmington University in Bowlerama for two days. The Gothic Knights picked up one win from their five games today, all of which were traditional games.

NJCU (20-29) started with a tough loss to Caldwell University in its first game of the day, but junior Rebecca Hoff (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) pitched her first of two 200-plus games with a score of 209 to lead the Gothic Knights to an 887-821 loss. Sophomore Anna Trachsler (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) had the second-best game of the game with a 175, her best of the day. Jersey City then took the win 916-835 thanks in part to Hoff’s outstanding 254, followed by a 192 from junior Samantha Szymanski (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) and a 190 from junior captain Meagan Raimondo ( Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) – Junior Rebecca Kain (Keansburg, NJ/Keansburg) also had her best round of the day with a 160.

Szymanski had NJCU’s best score in Game 3 for the team with a 165 as Jersey City fell to 16th Mount St. Mary’s College, 975-746. Against #23 Merrimack College, the Gothic Knights saw Hoff lead them with a round 169, followed by Kain’s 157 as they fell, 914-726. The Verts et Or ended their day in a narrow 833-823 loss to Molloy College. They were led by Hoff’s 186, followed by Szymanski’s 174, while Raimondo and Trachsler each posted rounds of 162.
