World-renowned pianist to perform at Salem Church on September 11 | News, Sports, Jobs

SALEM – A free concert by a worldwide touring pianist at the First Presbyterian Church of Salem has been announced.

The concert will take place on September 11th at 3:00 p.m. and will showcase the musical talents of world-renowned pianist and composer Dr. CalvinTaylor. Taylor has performed around the world including North and South America, Europe, the former Soviet Union and the Caribbean.

Taylor has degrees in music from the world-renowned Oberlin Conservatory, the University of Michigan, and the University of Kentucky, and is the author of several music books, including “The Patriotic Piano.” As part of his studies, Taylor studied with popular composers such as Henry Mancini, David Raskin and Nelson Riddle.

Taylor has completed 10 solo recordings for Master Disc Records, featuring moves by him “Sunrise Symphony” performed by such renowned orchestras as the Nashville, Shreveport, South Arkansas, Salt Lake City and Detroit symphonies.

Taylor’s lauded improvisational skills led him to become the first student in the Oberlin Conservatory’s more than 175-year history to ever improvise an encore for a final concert. Taylor’s hand span has been noted to be unusually large, at nearly an octave and a half, presenting tones and melodies on the keyboard that would normally require four hands to produce.

Recordings and music books can be purchased after the concert, and everyone is invited to attend the free concert. Call 615-295-5795 for information.
