ATHENS, Ohio — Central Michigan’s baseball team fell into an early deficit and could never catch Ohio on Saturday as the Bobcats handed the Chippewas an 11-7 Mid-American Conference loss. at Bob Wren Stadium.

The Chippewas are 10-8, 1-1 MAC. They face the Bobcats (5-11, 3-2) Sunday (1 p.m.) in the three-game series tie.

The Chippewa pitcher returned three homers on 13 hits — both season highs for a CMU opponent — on Saturday.

Cole Williams homered twice for Ohio, the first a three-run shot that gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

The Chippewas pecked but could never tie or take the lead. They tied 3-2 in the fourth inning and 7-6 after a three-run sixth.

The Bobcats scored two runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 9-6, then added two more in the eighth.

Kade Preston and Marquis Jackson hit solo home runs for CMU, which finished with nine hits but went just two for nine with runners in scoring position.

Preston’s home run came in the fourth inning, and it was his first in 81 career at bats. Jackson’s homer was his third of the season.

Starter Keegan Batka (3-2) allowed seven runs on nine hits and struck out four over five innings in taking the loss. Ryan Insco, Nate Ross and Evan Waters each pitched a relief inning.
