Christian Haynes named 2023 Athlon Sports Preseason All-American

STORRS, Conn. — UConn senior offensive lineman Christian Haynes (Bowie, MD) added another preseason honor to his resume this week, earning a spot on the 2023 Athlon Sports College Football Preseason All-America Team. Haynes was named to the second-team offense for the 2023 preseason annual college football release.

Haynes also earned a spot on the 2023 Walter Camp Preseason FBS All-American Team presented by 777. Haynes was named the second team on the preseason list.

At the end of the 2022 season, Haynes was named to the Associated Press and Sporting News All-American teams. He became only the third Husky in the FBS era to earn All-American honors and the first since running back Jordan Todman was named a first-team pick by Sporting News in 2010 and secured a spot in the AP (2nd-team ) secured Walter Camp Foundation (2nd team). In 2008, running back Donald Brown became UConn’s first All-American since joining FBS and was also named to the first team by Sporting News and to the second team by the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

The UConn guard was the anchor of the Husky offensive line and running game in 2022. Haynes, along with the rest of his linemates, started in all 13 games and provided a rushing attack that averaged 194.9 yards per game. The Huskies rushed for more than 200 yards in six games and three straight carries, ending the regular season. Haynes, who has started 37 straight games over the past three seasons, also led a unit that ranked 30th in sacks allowed nationally and gave up 17 this season, just 1.42 per game.
