After a phenomenal European Championship a few weeks ago, Portugal’s Diogo Ribeiro continues to do well here in Lima. Ribeiro led the boys 50 free preliminary this morning, swimming at 10:32 p.m. After breaking the Portuguese record in the men’s 100m free run at the European Championships, Ribeiro is now close to the national record in the 50m free run, which stands at 21.90. As he progresses through the semifinals and finals of this meeting, we’ll see if he can get any closer to that record.
Jere Hribar was (Croatia) was just behind Ribeiro this morning and swam a 22.42.
Nikolas Antoniou of Cyrpus broke the Cypriot record of 22.72 in the 50m at the European Junior Championships in July. This morning he was 22.77 and finished 5th overall.
After splitting 49.47 and 49.50 that anchored Romania’s boys in 4×100 free relays on Day 1, Romania’s 17-year-old Patrick Sebastian Dinu finished 13th in 23.31 this morning. Given his fast 100 split times in the relay, he’ll be someone else to watch tonight.

Mizuno won Jr. Pan Pacs gold last week, swimming a new life best of 2:09.17. Narita, who broke the IM 400m championship record on day one, finished second at Jr. Pan Pacs in the 200m return in 2:09.67.
