Seoul: South Korean tech company Samsung has announced that its new software update for the Galaxy S22 series will bring a number of improvements to the trio’s cameras.

According to GSM Arena, the new update will enable hyperlapse videos for the telephoto camera and improve the QR scanner for easier navigation. The Hyperlapse option in the Camera app offered shots with the Wide and Ultrawide cameras, but now comes a third 3x option.

Samsung also confirmed that Astro Hyperlapse is currently in development. It’s a cool feature that allows users to take even more artistic photos of the night sky.

In addition, the QR scanner gets a larger scanning area and offers a scanning tip if the app cannot find the code itself. There was also a bug that is now being fixed, GSM Arena reported.

Previously, users could not simply dismiss the message behind the QR code and had to close the app or follow the URL.

Further improvements are in the area of HDR performance and color reproduction. Memory usage and AI performance in photo, video and night modes have also been optimized. The stabilization is also further improved.

All of these updates from Samsung apply to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphones. The company is also pushing Hyperlapse and QR code improvements for the Galaxy S21 series, but the rest of the performance gains are limited to the S22 cameras and are unlikely to reach older-gen flagships, according to GSM Arena.
