Pella Girls tame Bloodhounds and earn 14th state football bid
Many of the dramatic moves required to advance in past regional finals were unnecessary as the No. 4 Pella girls’ soccer team flexed their muscles in Thursday’s 5-0 win over Fort Madison. The victory gave the Dutch their 14th national football trip and their first since 2019. Pella was not long in coming before Abby Warner scored her first goal in the 18th minute. Another Warner goal followed just minutes later and three different Dutchmen including Lauren Mace, Kaylee Van Polen and Lizzie Neumann established an unassailable lead before half-time. Pella goes into the 2023 State Tournament as the fourth-seeded player, meeting No. 6 ADM in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 31 at 12:45 p.m
Lyon finished 14th at the State Golf Tournament
It’s a strong start for a Pella golfer who is attending a state meeting for the second straight year. Karsyn Lyons is tied in 14th after shooting an 84 at the final Class 3A meeting of 2023 in Cedar Falls on Thursday. Lyons are back in action today for the second day of the tournament.
