Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ is coming to East Rutherford, New Jersey this weekend, and the governor has announced a unique way to honor the singer.
Swift will play a trio of shows at MetLife Stadium, and like all of her “Eras Tour” stops so far, she’s receiving special honors ahead of her shows.
“In New Jersey, we have a reputation for a big war between the Taylor ham and the pork roll,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a video filled with Swift references in which he spoke about the never-ending debate over the state sandwiches.
“Usually we’ll let you call it whatever you want, but since we have a superstar coming to town, we know damn well we should commemorate the occasion. So today we’re declaring the sandwich official state from New Jersey a Taylor Swift ham, egg and cheese.
“Welcome to New Jersey, Taylor! We’ve been waiting for you, and without you, summer would have been cruel.
The office also issued an official proclamation announcing the news.
Swift’s trio of sold-out concerts begin on Friday. She last performed in the venue during her “Reputation” stadium tour in 2018, with her performance of “Clean” being part of her Netflix concert documentary.
It also comes after Swift announced that a special CD edition of “Midnights” will be available exclusively to ticket holders this weekend. It will contain a ‘Karma’ remix featuring Ice Spice, the ‘More Lana’ version of ‘Snow on the Beach’ featuring Lana Del Rey, the bonus track from ‘Hits Different’ and an unreleased vault track from ‘You’re Losing Me. ‘.
Swift received other honors during her previous stops
Last month, Tampa, Fla. Mayor Jane Castor said the city would appoint her “honorary mayor” while she was in town.
In March, Glendale, Ariz., changed its name to “Swift City” to celebrate the 33-year-old’s kick off tour at State Farm Stadium.
