Women’s tennis will host Temple on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team returns home to take on the Owls of Temple on Sunday at the Hecht Tennis Center. Quakers and Owls are due to start at 1 p.m.

The Quakers are coming off a 1-2 trip to Arizona where they beat UTEP 5-2, then fell 5-2 to Arizona and 6-1 to Arizona State. Penn’s only win over the Sun Devils came in singles No. 1 as Sabine Rutlauka improved to 9-0 with a straight-set victory over No. 113 Chelsea Fontenel. Over the course of the season, the Quakers have an 11-0 record overall in No. 1 singles, with Rutlauka having a 9-0 record and Gavriella Smith having a 2-0 record. On the doubles side, Penn had the most success of their No. 2 pair as they went 8-3 combined with Maya Urata and Iris Gallo leading with a 5-2 record.

Overview of the temple
The Owls are coming off a 7-0 win over Binghamton on Saturday. Temple opened with a sweep of the doubles matches. On the singles side, the Owls won singles 2-6 in straight sets while at No. 1, Thamara Frasser Kawaratani took victory in straight sets with a 10-3 tiebreaker victory. Temple opened the season 1-1 before winning eight straight to improve their record to 9-1.
